whats the diffrenece between vps and shared hosting? why is vps cheaper then shared hosting and gives more bandwidth right now im going to be using 50 gb a month so so i will have to leave shared hosting so vps or dedicated?
I've been on VPS since 2002 and I have total access to mysevers. And I have enjoyed the freedom they have given me. You just need VPS. Find a company that gives you good support that's number 1. With Dedicated you are on your own, so it does depend on your expertise. On VPS you can get packages that allow you to host from 30-Unlimited Domains. You made a stament that shared was cheaper then VPS. This usually not the case, at least not to my knowledge. If you like a good reference, for a VPS provider just PM me.
A VPS is a virtual server, in appearance it is the same as a real dedicated server, the difference is that you are only given part of a whole server. Unless the VPS is managed you have to manage the machine yourself, this includes security, backups and so on. Within the VPS you can install a control panel such as cPanel and then create and allocate accounts. Only what you choose to run on the VPS runs on it, no other users processes will run within your VPS. Shared hosting is where you are allocated an account on a server with various limits imposed. Your account shares the server with many other users, so unlike the VPS there are processes created by other users. With a VPS you usually get full unrestricted access to the server while with shared hosting you only have access to your account. Have you included, control panel, offsite backups, server management etc before comparing the VPS with shared hosting. You need to be careful to compare like with like, but I wouldn't expect a good VPS to be cheaper than shared hosting.
you can read details about all hosting types here: http://www.webhost2go.com/web-hosting/types.html For normal traffic -> shared For high traffic -> VPS For extremely high -> Dedicated If you site will consume ~50GB bandwidth, go for VPS.
Not as bad as you might think. You can also get an unmanaged server an employ companies such as, again off the top of my head, http://www.platinumservermanagement.com/ for $29 p/m (I've not used them so can't say what they are like).
its 50 gb right now but its gonna break 100 in no time also the website sends loads of emails about 10k + a day which would need more cpu i guess? my website is breaking 130k alexa in the weekly rank the daily today was 70k...
Right now im on a special shared hosting solution which will allow me to send that many emails a day which costs more then normal 14.99$
I'm surprised they allow you to send that many out in a shared environment. Many shared hosting companies wouldn't do that. So, if you choose to leave, there's a good chance that you'll need a VPS, or dedicated solution. I don't think you need dedicated for the most part, but you'll definitely need an isolated solution like a VPS.
Its a special company which allows it at extra cost as you can see for example 100 gb would be 25$ I dont want to leave the exisiting host has vps and dedicated also shared only goes up to 100 gb and im gonna pass that in a month or so
You can start with shared hosting and upgrade as needed. VPS is better than shared but it's more expensive.
