I just requested a SEO report from an online company and one of the areas it mentioned I failed in was sharing a IP address with other websites. In my experience most people choose a shared hosting account because it is less expensive. Does it really hurt your online ranking if you use a shared hosting account?
No. Depends on website only. But you can find a lot of hosts with dedicated IP with nice price (5-15$ for 100-1000mb monthly)
Shared hosting does not effect rankings, I would say an 50% of the #1 search results on Google are on shared hosting plans, for a company that provides SEO reports for cash they sure are spreading mis-information. The only issue with shared hosting is when your linking between 2 websites and they are on the same IP.
I appreciate the feedback. I've been around in this virtual world for a while and know that there are so many people using shared hosting and didn't that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks!!!
The only possible problem is if one of the sites hosted on the same server as you and share the same ip as you is banned from search engines.. This might affect your site as well.
Hi ssandecki, Just wondering where you got your stats from? Checking whether you are on shared hosting is something that search engines can easily track, so I guess it would be in the equation somewhere, though I don't think it would the importance that search engines place on it is very high. Brew
