Shared drive on VPS with WHM/Cpanel

    Hi

I just bought a VPS with Godaddy and have cpanel installed on it (WHM and Cpanel). I would like to somehow install a shared drive on it. Is this possible? I don't want a script that would allow me to upload files, I would like to use my VPS as Shared drive, from which our employees will be able to open files directly.

    Is this possible?

Thanks alot for your answers and help in advance!

    Hey ,

If you have full root access to the server, you can install NFS, or Samba. This will enable file sharing between computers for your employees.

You'll need to contact godaddy though. If it's a VPS, you won't or "shouldn't" have root access.

It's Linux, as we are mostly running wordpress based sites.

root would have to be linux, for the most part. Matt, can't you contact GoDaddy to have them set this up for you?

Hey matt, then you shouldnt have gotten from Godaddy next time =P. There are smaller players in the market who would have been keen to help you set this up at the same price as godaddy.

but anyways, since its a linux server, you should be having the root access, after all it is a VPS.

Since you want your employees to be able to download the shared drive, you might need to install either a PPTP vpn or OpenVPN with Samba installed so that your employees can securely share the file over your vps.

What linux is it on ?

Yes there absolutely is an easy way to do this via cPanel, not sure why nobody has mentioned this already. cPanel has a feature called WebDAV, if you login to your cPanel account then look for "Web Disk" under the files section. It allows you to create a drive letter on your computer so you can access your files.

Not 100% sure whether or not GoDaddy allows that feature though, they may have disabled it if they don't allow it.
