How much traffic are you seeing for this number 1 position. Is it for a single or two word combination?
Yeah one was a product information site and the other was a product purchase site. It's great to have that in my portfolio but some real good strategies in November 05 on link building for those sites paid back. Both sites were more than two years old and I was the Webmaster of one site from scratch including content creation, design etc except logo creation.
I'm top 5 in Google for "free nextel ringtones" free sprint ringtones" and "free verizon ringtones" - took me long enough!
we have good results in google and msn most of our keywords is in top 10 but yahoo is a different thing they are giving us not so good results hopefully we can work it out before the end of month..
My SEO milestones? Well I built a website many many years ago, and it got spidered by the great god Altavista. It was number one for a load of phrases we wwere going for. Then I had to sit down and work out why? I knew nothing at all about SEO (Hell SEO hadn't even been invented then, people were just coming to terms with having a website LOL). Funny thing is, I built that first site so that it would download fast, have nice focused pages about each subject, and had a nice navigation system so people could find stuff easy. Turns out that was the basics of what search engines wanted then and still do. Milestones in SEO? Apart from the above, the greatest milestones I have had is seeing a clients business grow and grow as a result of my actions. Getting the phone calls from excited clients who I have taken online, just after they have put the phone down to their first order. Getting an email from a client who recently secured a £400,000 order from their website because the client 'loved the way the site spoke to them'. (I don't do design any longer but I did design this one as a favour and part of the deal). Getting Pm's like this from people on forums who I have helped. There are many milestones in life, but thanks from other people outranks them all in my mind Although if we are bragging, I once ranked number 1 for 'riding a shire horse naked in Wales'. Hell of an acomplishment IMo. and I only charged the client £10,000 monthly for 15 years.. oh and their first born child, oh and a weekend with his wife, and 20 year old daughter..... together
Hit my first SEO milestone for my own stuff in the last couple of months. Bought an old directory that had a bunch of random traffic from the SE's (ranking on a bunch of secondary/tertiary terms). Bought another old site from within the industry. Put the directory site into the DP network, pointed the weight at my industry site. A few months later the industry site now brings in $1000-$1500 a month. I could probably increase that by 25%-50% if I put some work into the onpage stuff. That's a milestone for me , not big bucks but more than 'inconsequential'. What's funny is that while I've successfully done some competitive rankings for clients, this is my first 'personal' site that I've tried - and honestly I didn't try very hard. Bought two sites, threw DP on one and voila. Easiest grand a month I've earned. < ding! idea! > Maybe I should repeat this a couple of times. .
