    Hi,
I would like to start a discussion on how best to increase CTR. and to start it off I will share one placement that helped me.

I added a left side menu bar, which was in blue and looked like part of the site and not like an ad. This was a new site but I used a channel and click as are coming from that area.

Can anybody else share there experience?

I've always found that using the default blue text links and white background works best, as long as it blends in with your site.

Also, continue testing. Gather traffic for a week, so you have some statistics, change some things, wait another week and compare CTR. Thats the only way.

I have a good CTR on ads at the top of front page in one site but it has failed on another, so, applied and testing it because different site may need different approach. Also, different visitor may need different tactics :)

I've been experimenting for years and the result is that 336x280 rectangles in 340 wide tables, right aligned, in the content, work the best. The next best are 728x90 leaderboards at the bottom of content, not at the top.

I make $200+ per day on my main site.

    My top performing placements are:-
On my category/author/archive pages, there's a 336x280 banner just under the Title.

On my post pages, there's a 300x250 unit that floats left, after the 7th paragraph of every post. If the post doesnt have 7 paragraphs, it doesn't show the unit.

At the end of the posts, I have a 336x280 unit on the left and Related Posts on the right.

Also, in my sidebar I have a 160x600 at the top. Sidebar shows on all pages except home.

I use 300X250 at the center and another skycrapper on my sidebar. Backgroud colour same as my website background.

Well, two large rectangle side by side just below header navigation brings me the highest CTR. :)

Thanks for the feedback- some great ideas! Can anybody tell me (with breaking Adsense TOS) has any body achieved above 30% CTR and can show me the site (maybe via PM) ?

    Thanks

I'd get worried if my CTR shoots above 5.

I disagree. It's perfectly feasible to attain a 10 / 15% CTR without being 'flaky'. Its all about proper targeting and placement.
