    This is how section targetting works...

    Let's use a blog about music for an example. If you make a post about a specific artisit and want to make sure AdSense targets that artist in your ads, you can put this around the post:

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->The Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite band, blah, blah, blah...<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
    Code (markup):
    Now let's say you make a personal post about your dog but don't want your ads to target on this info. You can do something like this:

    <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->Today I took my dog Fido to vet because he needed a shot, blah, blah, blah...<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
    Code (markup):
    Hopefully this clears up your questions. Let me know if you need any more explanation ;)

    Pammer asked for an example:

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->
    <P><B>Links:</B>
      <A HREF="http://www.widgets.com" TITLE="Buy Widgets Online">Widgets Online</A> |
      <A HREF="http://www.wikipedia.com/widgets" TITLE="Everything About Widgets">Widgets on Wikipedia</A> |
      <A HREF="http://www.blue-widgets.com/" TITLE="Get Your Blue Widgets Here">Blue Widgets</A>
    </P>
    <!-- google_ad_section_end-->

    HTML:
    Looks like this (TITLEs appear as tooltips to user):

    Links: Widgets Online | Widgets on Wikipedia | Blue Widgets

    Hope that makes sense...

    Cryo.

    Section targeting is useless and worthless if you change your content daily. It can take up to 2 weeks for section targeting to take effect. Waste of time.

    These are basic tips for people like me with Entertainment blogs. I finally earned $xxxx last month after just barely reaching that plateau in 3 months. :p

    • Register with photo services like Wireimage.com. Post new celeb photos watermarked with your web/blog URL on your site/blog. This requires that you monitor the wire services virtually 24/7. Readers will post photos (with your watermark) on other sites/message boards
    • Use photos on your blog at the beginning of every article. Photos capture the reader's eye like nothing else
    • If you have an Entertainment blog, search for finance-related Entertainment stories, ie, celebs with bankruptcy, real estate transactions (condos) which attracts high-paying ads
    • Content interesting to females will be very popular (ie, pregnant celebs)
    • Use keywords such as pregnant, bankrupt, etc. in your headlines and 1st paragraph of each article
    • If your site is served high-paying ads, delay changing your content for a couple of days
    • Controversial articles drives traffic to your blog
    • Network at celebrity events and pass out business cards with link to your site/blog
    • Email popular sites like Perezhilton.com and request link exchange (keep requesting until they respond)
    • Befriend the media and ask them to shout out your blog/site
    • Remove Adsense from pages with low to no traffic.
    • Use no more than 2 ads or links on each page
    • Remove "Advertise on this site" from your ads
    • Change content frequently and be very creative with keywords
    • Use lots of humor. Keep your content interesting
    • Encourage your readers to participate in your blog by requesting responses to your content.
    • Interact with your readers and they will keep returning
    • Avoid kill words in your content even if you must delete those words from articles
    • Register on popular Entertainment boards and place your link in your siggy
    • Avoid the words rap, rapper or Hip Hop on your Entertainment blog

    Those 4 words attract worthless penny ads like ringtones which drops ctr. Even the names of certain rappers attract worthless penny ads. Our mission is to increase our earnings, not decrease them. I've found that my earnings increased 20% by avoiding the use of those words.

    Be careful with stuff like this that draws "unnatural" attention to the ads.

    My best tips is if you have done something that you think or dont know if are violating the TOS, write a nice email and send to the adsense team and ask. Dont just ask around in forums, ask the source.

    Another tips: blue links, yes I know, its butt ugly.

    Use Google's Adwords keyword tool.
    hxxps://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

    Choose data to display: Keyword popularity

    Use keywords that have both 'Advertiser Competition' & 'Search Volume'.

    One without the other might be fruitless.

    Experiment but do NOT overdo it with optimizing ad placement, colors etc. If it's too blended in and people don't realize they are clicking on an ad, they'll leave the advertiser's site in a blink of an eye. Then smart pricing will kick in and your clicks will get cheaper because they are converting poorly.
