Hello, I just joined a couple forums, with some ideas for self promotion, but I'm getting a weird vibe now like I'm going to come across like a total self-promoter (which I basically am ). My original idea was to come across as a decent guy, who holds stupid little contest, like a "look-at-this-and-tell-me-what-you-think" contest for $1 for the best answer, and people would go look and report back on some radical youtube video or something sick in the news. Another idea I want to do is have a contest where 1st, 2nd , 3rd would share a $20 prize for for a pic of my web domain (drawn on cardboard or whatever) at awesome locations around the globe or on a girl's chest or whatever. Then I'd put them on a page, and my site would look world famous. Anyway, what's a good forum to join that is not about websites, but where you could get away with little paypal contests. I joined a Foder's, a travel forum, but I get the feeling I'm going to get booted out of their real quick. Btw, you can PM me if you want to compare notes on publicity stunts or unorthodox ways of self promotion, or collaborations that aren't too evil. (Imo, most people are chasing the same nickel around here.)
You could post in Craigslist at your local one You can then pay people to post to other Craigslist forums out of your geo targeting range. This is a good way to get people to participate in what you're talking about.
That's a thought JasonV, I have not looked into the CraigsList thing yet, but I see a lot of posts about it. I'm currently playing around on a photo forum as a buyer/collaborator of promotional photos and videos which is an honest approach.
