Shall we webmasters promote Bing.com for Microsoft?

Google's good but let's face it, absolute power comes absolute corruption. If Google continues to grow and finally achieve domination of the entire Internet market, we hard working webmasters aren't going to get any share of that but a tyranny that determines if you live or not.

It will be harder for them to hear our voices and care about us. Search engines are so important these days that it will certainly break or make a company and not be trusted to a single entity.

    We have to diversify.

Competition is good. In this case, Microsoft is the only rival powerful enough for Google to deal with carefully. If Bing manages to take off and confront Google, resulting in a 50% : 50% market share, both the billions of search engine end users and us fellow webmasters will benefit. The companies who are relying on Internet marketing for survival will benefit.

Do you think it's a good idea to promote Bing.com voluntarily on our sites?

I agree with you. We should not let Google dominate the web, but haven't thought of Promoting Bing.

I am not fully agree with you as we have not promoted google to come at this stage..it came by its own hard work..lets see how bing will survive from competition.. and as a webmaster we should be neutral with search engine..let them fight..fittest will survive..

Your objective to increase competition is very well intended, but I don't recollect any contribution by the web masters to make Google a success.

People like google because of it's simplicity and as a user, I typically opt for Google and get the result I'm looking for within the first page.

General public is looking for quality and if Bing acquires that than no one needs to promote Bing - It would rise on it's own!

    Thx

Why not promote another search engine? Why bing?

Microsoft has the hold on many markets. Google having such a bad share is not a great thing, but I would prefer another engine to have a larger share -- not MS.

Bing is currently ranking several of the sites we operate very highly... Much higher than Google!

I think many webmaster are finding Bing more democratic and less like Google which sometimes merely helps the big ones get bigger.

I have full faith in the market dynamics giving us good and efficient end result. I do not think such promotion would anyway make much of a difference, but even then, I would let the market decide on its own... whether one leader is sufficient or it needs two to tango! :)

the rule around my domains is... be good to me and Ill be good to you. I get nothing from yahoo as far as organic traffic... so guess what?

bing on the other hand has treated me pretty well so far

Yes. Great idea. Microsoft monopolizes 90% of the desktop so let's help Microsoft monopolize search, too. That would be great for competition. Right.

No, I'm not into promoting other websites; I'll just promote my own and target, rather than promote, the search engines that send me decent traffic.

Make MS promote their own search engine. they have enough cash to do it with. I don't really see that as my fight. However I am with you - if a combination Yahoo/NS search engine isn't going to give some choices then no one will and it will be bad for the Internet.

Some people act like MS is the first or only big company to abuse its weight with its own greed. Google is in danger of going down the same road. In a perfect world Bing and Google would keep each other in check in search and Apple would finally let go of demanding (legally anyway) that its OS runs only on its own machines.

I would agree with you if Microsoft didn't create bing from live just as a way to garner attention.

Well i have a website which stants at #1 at google but at bing at 3rd page. Whats even worse is that on the first page(at bing) for the same term there is a MFA standing domain with only the landing page and ads. That means they need to do much more before they will attract my attention.

I think if bing successfully creates a site voting system and sets a trend of people contributing alot of power to ranking sites, 95% of peoples sites on here who rely on serps for traffic will get none and search results will begin to be better for casual browsers.
