Not sure if you are able to make the comments no index or not with wordpress.. and to be honest I am not sure if it would be such a good idea..
A good article will promote good discussion on the topic of the article.. I don't know why you would think that having more related content added to a page by way of comments would dilute the article... I think, rather than dilute the post, comments will add to it.. But up to you..

PS, great intro to your netcast.. "that smell" sounded awesome blasting from my 100db/pw horns when I entered your site, it was a nice welcome..
But having the netcast on every page set to auto start may not be to good an idea. as much as I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, 3 pages in to your site and it was wearing a bit thin ;)
    Just sharing my opinion

    Cheers

No, most spammers use automated software to blast the comments. my blog is nofollow & have +700 spam comments so far.

    1. It's simple, add "Akismet" & "Math Comment Spam Protection" plugins (do %99 of the work). I even allow comments to go live without moderation.

    2. close the forum till you get till you get lots of comments. then, reverse, close comments & add a link:
Have Something to Say? Discuss This Post on The Forum Now... Click Here. blah blah...

about the lack of comments, I agree. but with minimum promotion you'll get comments. on my blog, I was running adwords campaign. getting around 200 visits/d. The comments were in 1-10 range-daily. So I don't think it's something ya have to worry about.

    3. delete bad/off-topic comments. remember, more comments=more content on your blog that get indexed --> better chances to appear in SE results.

Yeah that's fixed, I only just added it when you went on the page so didn't quite finish editing all the attributes. :p

As for the comments I'm thinking replies like

    "I agree"
    "lol that was funny"
    "man that sucks"

I guess I could only allow quality comments through.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd! :D

Of course otherwise you miss the main point of your blog. Just make sure you check it regularly to delete the spam posts if any.
You could put a no follow tag as well but you might want to build link through your blog

Thats better.. I did notice that it buffers the whole audio file. so even though someone may come in to read the posts and choose not to listen to the netcast, they still download it.. (its quite big (20megs+)) and after it had buffered all of the file.. I listened to it, then clicked on a link to read a post, I noticed that it buffered the whole track again on the next page.. So visiting your hompage, then reading 1 short post, consumed 46meg of bandwidth.

I have never used wordpress (or any blog software for that matter) so I am not sure if this would be easy.. but to try and combat the one liners, you could maybe have below the post or above the comment box, "thumbs up/down" or "I agree/disagree" radio buttons.
And also above the comment box you could write
"Have something constructive to add? have your say"
That may or may not work, maybe worth a try.

    Cheers
