    HEllo Friends,

I've searched the forum, but unable to find an 'exact' match to my questions: Please direct me to some threads if you know

    I have some basic questions:

    1) How Shadow domains work?
    2) How to identify shadow domains?
    3) Which action (penalizing) can be forced on such domains?
    4) Any update with google on this issue?
    5) Any difference between Shadow Domains and Link-Farms?
    6) Any benefits ( I wonder if there are any!) using them?

    Thanks for your time.

Say you have www.widgets.com, someone setting up a shadow domain would register www.widgets2.com then optimize 40-100 pages based on your target phrases. They cloak the domain, force feed the optimized content to the spiders and then redirect human visitors to www.widgets.com

The key here is not using javascript, or meta refresh, but instead, they set up the shadow on their own server and use their own script to redirect. The redirect is invisible to the human users, who will never see www.widgets2.com.

Typically, the site owner is given the rights to the shadow domain as well. In highly competitive areas the technique is used quite often. There can be more than one shadow domain, optimized for very specific phrases that all drive traffic to the target domain. Since it is invisible to the end user, it is rarely caught. The key is to maintain the servers the shadows are placed on. :) They have to be in perfect order.

I don't see why would someone redirect human visitors to mine homepage?
