I have come up with a term to describe Marketing :)

I am fed up and bored of the old elements of marketing. I think in todays age and day Marketing should be "sexy" and sweet.

What do you define marketing as?

When you launch a product or a website what is your aim?

    :)

People have used sex in marketing for about as long as marketing has existed... not really new. ;)

Any marketing program has to be sustainable to guarantee returns, and needs to be creative with some sizzle to grab attention :)

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Sex as is what visually appealing and considered "sexy" by the general public (ie celebrities like you mentioned) is old hat. It's been used in marketing for basically forever. Still not new. If anything, marketing's been moving more away from that and trying to appeal to people in a more realistic perspective in a lot of ways. It's an interesting transition, that obviously wouldn't work for all companies or all demographics that you're trying to reach. But your marketing shouldn't be decided on just because you think it should be "sexy." It should be determined based on a lot of factors, like what you're doing or selling, who you're trying to reach, etc.

Great points you make here guys - But I think the impact of technlolgy and things like the Internet and mobile phones has gave companies ways to market their product in a sexual way.

I think that when marketing is compelling, it creates more of a buzz than sexy. Humorous is my favorite. Of course, there is the "Head on" commercial which leaves one to wonder if annoying is just as effective. Basically we want marketing that sticks in the mind, no matter what the method.

One of the biggest factors is who are you selling to?

    Male or Female?

'Sexy' marketing works so well with Males. No NOT sex marketing but sexy marketing!!

Companies moving away from 'sexy' marketing are wither targetting a largely female audience or are trialling it and will return to 'sexy' marketing!!

But then 'sexy' marketing doesnt have to be associated with a person or a thing!!

You can find a specific marketing niche 'sexy' in a perverse kind of way!!

"Sexy" marketing is "sex" marketing - it's the same thing... "sexy" imagery or other elements, as they'd apply to the target group being marketed to. Sex in marketing doesn't have to blatantly mean "sex."

I very highly doubt companies are "trialling" non-sexy marketing, and going to go back to it. The fact of the matter is that they're finding out that it's working.... and exceptionally well. They have no reason to go back in many cases. Does it often target women? Yes. Think of Dove's newer ad campaigns as a highly visible example. It's also happening in automotive markets and other industries trying to appeal to women, b/c they're realizing "sexy marketing", while able to reach men, is hurting them from attracting women buyers, and women play a role in the majority of major purchases, whether they physically do the buying or not. It's not a fad that they're going to get tired of. More and more companies are realizing the benefits.

"Sexy marketing" is old news. It's been done in just about every industry and every way possible by now. They already know who they're able to reach with it. And the good marketers are finally learning from that to press companies to move into the markets it simply isn't reaching.

Sex sells, but many people stop responding to sexy ads. I'm currently much more likely to notice an ad with 'real people'.
