i was able to snap up about 20 terms (domains) that people use to search for the service my company does. most of the terms are not every competitive, google keywords tool results below:

bu i thought about creating a landing page under each site, using wordpress and put an interesting article on each one describing what service they are looking for, and it leads them to our website.

i was thinking of having one of the sites an resource site of related articles and our press releases, and a plan to have 2 articles and 2 press releases go out a month

so the archive site would link back and forth with the resource site and each of the landing pages would have a link to the company site and the resource site

    thoughts? suggestions appreciated

What I would do is make one good site, and build backlinks for each keyword until you ranked highly for each particular keyword. Those keywords will probably bring you little to no traffic. Usually the site in the #1 spot gets half of the overall searches. So for the first keyword you get 170 monthly searches - half = 85 /30 = a average of 2.8 visitors per day for that keyword. Thats if the adwords information is correct. I would suggest going after keywords that will bring more traffic especially if you are going to do all the hard work.

I think, that most of the people will stay on the landing pages, very few will go from keyword domain to the main website. Then each domain needs the full offer of your company, and it looks rather like dissolving not strengthening the brand. So one good site is better as WebsiteKing said.
These 20 domains can support the main site, but in the different way than described.

I assume that you already have the domains, then do what you've planned, but try to make the sites around the subject corresponding to domain keyword, and the subjects should be as broad as possible, so the sites are different. This way you acquire bigger space than planned, after some promotion you will have 20 strong web sites and you can use the keywords in anchor text linking to your main page.
This requires more effort, but it is the way to utilize these domains, they maybe not bring lot customers, but give by links all the authority earned to you main site which should move up in SERP.
