So, I want to set up a website. What is the way to do this, in steps? I currently have a Google Blogger account but want to buy my own domain name, how do I get around to doing this :)

You want to buy a domain name or want to develop your own site? How would you develop it? HTML, XHTML, PHP or what? I will suggest you to start from HTML as its easy. You can use MS Frontpage for this purpose at initial stages.

Also if you want to buy domain names, there are a lot of registrars who are providing this service. Some of them are Godaddy, Namecheap, dynadot, etc.

    Hope that helps.

I want to buy a domain name, I've checked on Godaddy and a few of the domain names I want are available... but after you buy the name, then what happens? :S

This is someone who has almost no knowledge of HTML (I know the standard a href links and that's about it :D) so is HTML the only way I could develop it? I'd prefer something like the WordPress interface with a registered domain name... :)

    you need these:

    1: Domain
    2: Hosting

    Domain:
When you register Domain, change the DNS (Domain Name Server) to one that is provided by your hosting company.

    Hosting:
Its you space on net, you can buy a cheap one at Asmallorange.com or just check Digitalpoint's Buy,Sale thread there you'll found some good deals.

    For Wordpress:
If your hosting company is CPanel powered, then you can install it from CPanel/Fantastico in just few clicks...

Alright, so first I buy the domain (GoDaddy.com), then I buy the hosting (Asmallorange)?

And after that, if the hosting company allows Wordpress I can install direct (do you have to pay for using Wordpress on a domain?)... any idea of the hosting companies that allow this?

They have this free program called NVU to download. It's easy to use, and you can make your website with it. Next find a hosting service for your site.

Godaddy.com is the best place to go for domain names. Once you purchase your name simply forward it to the current domain name server. You should be able to do that in your godaddy account.

Is there not a service that does both the domain name and the hosting in one go? Charging slightly more of course, but it's all together?

For a look at what I want my site to be like, go to www. insidearsenal.co.uk (without the space) Basically something like that, however I would like to have different sections (for different leagues).

Alright guys, sorry to bump this but this is my last question, I promise :D

Say I already have a website at wordpress (my current one is http:// soccerspecs.wordpress.com/), and I would like to keep the site, yet still want someone to direct to it when I type in soccerspecs.com. Do I still need to buy hosting, or will a simple GoDaddy/Yahoo domain purchase work?
