I plan to set up my own web design company and offer different packages depending on the client's needs. Each package includes one domain and a year's hosting. This means that I take care of the purchasing of the domain and hosting so the customer does not have to do anything. The package includes support for one year and then the customer can decide if they want to renew their support on a yearly basis thereafter. The price for the support renewal will include another year's hosting and domain. Have I got the right idea here? Is this a good way of going about it? Also, should I be registering the domain using my company details, or my customer's details?
Sounds good! But many people are already doing so! Try to find yourself a niche to service...like schools for instance, or local businesses. When you register the domain names, it is good to keep you as the technical and administrative contact, and keep the business the business contact...since they ultimately own the domain name anyways. Good luck with your venture!
I just heard about uniqueblogdesigns.com talking on shoemoney's radio show (webmasteradio.fm) about the web design industry. They say there is a huge open marketing in blog design/development. However, you really need to know what you are doing. I would highly recommend listening to that show on how you should get started. Like Shoemoney, I think they were brilliant in the way they got started.
Cheers tony! I'm going to do it for local start-up's and I've already got some people interested! What I mean about registering the domain is regarding the actual account details. As the domain and hosting will be linked to my account, how can I transfer the account to the customer if I need to?
