    Hey guys,
I've gotten my web host to point the A Records of a subdomain I have to another server. What's required of me on the other server?

Would it be best to simply do MX Records, setup the site off server, and have my host do MX Record changes?

when you make your email account that MX record will be given to you and your host might need to set that up in the server

You need to make sure the alias used for the A record has an http entry for that.

MX means mail exchangers record. They are different then A. Your host should do the both.

Would it be possible to do this via .htaccess ? the off-account server is a friends server and he's almost never online. It isn't a server used for a hosting business, it's just his server.

You need to do this in the DNS zone file. .htaccess relates to web server :)

And that is on side of your domain name registrar, not on side of your web hosting provider

Why it should be in the domain registrar if he is using his dns server of the hosting provider?
