I am setting up a small LAN (cabled) for a small software company. I am planning to have one Window and one Linux server. I am not sure how to manage the antivirus and firewall. How should I incorporate it and which would be best for me? Please help!!!!!!!!!

    Hello seekuh,
You have a couple of options. One is to use perimeter protection to inspect or filter network traffic at the entry point of your internal network. An example of this would be the Tipping Point appliance. Another option would be to load AV and firewall software on individual machines. You can take your pick of the free software for both Windows and Linux, or add a subscription fee to your budget and buy commercial software. It's your choice, based on what is best for your configuration and network setup.

You might be interested in an all-in-one solution such as Untangle . com .This is a free solution with a couple of charged addons if necessary. It's based on open-source technologies and really is a great idea for small business needs. I've used this a couple of times for clients and have been happy with it.

For the windows server use comodo security apps . , they are free to download. Anti virus , firewall and the boclean. If you need anti virus for linux they have new mcafee total security for linux.
I would check into that. I know softlayer provides that.

If you dont mind shelling out some money to get one of the best products available, you can try Symantec. They have not just windows products, but also Linux products like Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine for Solaris / Linux.
