Setting up a domain for server on port 81.

    Hi.

I wasn't sure where to post this, seems as it's about a domain and domain configuration yet its also more about site and server admin so here goes...

I have a home server running apache listening on port 81. This is because there is already a webserver running on our network listening on port 80. Don't question this, i can't change it, don't suggest i do, just accept it.

How would i go about setting up my domain so that it points to my IP address and port?

I did used to have it done by setting up the domain www2.mydomain.com pointing to my IP address, then a webhop www.mydomain.com to point to www2.mydomain.com:81 but the problem with this was that when a user visited www.mydomain.com, it would show www2.mydomain.com:81 in the address bar which i don't really like that much.

Is there any way to do it "properly"? what records would i need to create? I'm currently using everydns.net to manage my domain (it's hosted with domainbag, but the nameservers are pointed to everydns.net so i can administer it easily.)

I'm quite certain it's not possible primarily because DNS and DNS records are made to resolve a domain to an IP and don't handle ports at all, this is a last resort by asking so i'm hoping i've missed something and it is possible:)

    Thanks in advanced.

You can't do that, they have to specify it manually (like you have been).

Thats not practically possible. Browsers only know/hide the default ports. On the other wise, someone would be unable to connect to your siteunless they specify the port 81.
