The things around the video are really heating up. Web site visitors are beginning to appreciate the value of videos on the various web sites out there. These methods will most probably increase traffic, credibility and interactivity. So maybe this is a good food for thought. Maybe you should use videos on your dating site NathanielJ.

Good for you. I have to add that it is far better to watch videos of those hotties instead of pics. That way you'll know for sure that there's no deception. Sometimes the users use somebody else's pic and people definitely don't want to meet this user in person. Everyone knows why! The OMG, WTF effect!

 

Honestly, in my experience of using dating sites, I don't think video will add that much more for the users, or that many users will want to submit videos. But I could be wrong.

Online dating is very personal for most users, and maintaining a certain level of privacy is important. A few photos and a description is enough for most. The rest is about filtering the people who attempt to make contact. This is especially true for women. They get inundated by rude, stupid, and sexually aggressive guys. And about 30% of women wont even ad pictures, but will have photo's to share for those that make contact and pass their filtering process.

Users will make contact, or receive contact from others, if there is a bit of interest. Initially through the internal email. Then it may progress to chat via the sites IM chat box. Then if that goes well they exchange MSN ids to chat there. MSN chat is far better than any IM service on a dating site and you can see when they are online without having to log into the dating site. And then they can webcam chat via MSN if it progresses that far. And then maybe meet in person.

For most users the online dating experience is 95% web chat.

 

People would definitely like videos on a dating site as. This is not like the good old boring sites where you lie to people almost about everything.

You think that people wouldn't like the idea of recording videos? Well, this could be introduced to them as a brief video profile that they have to create.

The rest of it could stick to the traditional boring chat messaging.

Nobody's talking about monetizing here. I think the discussion revolves around the features that attract visitors and users. And videos are an example feature that is gaining more and more popularity. Monetizing comes next.

 

Well, I don't want to repeat myself but as I have mentioned before I think that the chat way of dating is no longer an interesting feature to the users. Video will most probably be the next big thing on the web with regards to communicating with people.

 

Hi there - I have had alot of experience with dating sites. It was how I met my hubby. There were a couple of very basic and simple features I like with the company I used - it was free but you could upgrade for additional features.

One of the additional features was to be able to see who had looked at your profile - if it wasn't for this I wouldn't have ever met him. He was looking at my profile but was to shy - I didn't search for anyone in his location so I would not have found him. It was purely because he looked at my profile a couple of times, that I spotted him and made the first move.

The other features I liked - were having a built in chat facility. I don't want to give my email details to a stranger, because there are weirdo's out there and they do stalk you. I like the safety of hiding behind a login name until I am sure I can trust someone.

When I chose a dating site - I wanted something that was simple to use, easy on the eyes and good basic features.

Develop a term of your own as in 'scrap', 'fans' on Orkut, you could have "x users have hots for this member'.

Not sure if I can post a url here but this site is very popular and being around for a while...I think you should try and emulate something similar...there's ratings, message, chat rooms, private chats, lots of profile features, videos etc etc
