    Hi all

I hope this is the right forum for this

I want to be able to set my website so that it is only accessible with the www. in front of the name

ie, I want it to look like this http://www.mydomain.com instead of http://mydomain.com

Hope this makes sense and thanks for any help

The 301 is exactly how you do it. If you get confused, please feel free to PM me. I did it for my site to get rid of the www, as seen when clicking the link in my signature.

    Hello, Emerald.

Normally, what you have in your server is a directory called "public_html". Here is where you put your pages, etc. This directory is accessed through the URL "somedomain.com", the domain name that you instructed the hosting company to use.

Additionally, they place a "symbolic link" pointing to the same directory, that is accessed through the URL "www.somedomain.com". So your pages can be reached both ways, with the "www" and without it. There is nothing that you need to do.

If you don't like one of the two URLs, just don't use it. But you can't prevent people of writing in the address bar what they want.
