Setting Private Nameservers

Of course I know how to set 'regular DNS' settings. For the first time I'm trying to properly set private nameservers and I'm not sure how.

-My main domain is parked at the registrar and DNS is set to the new host.
-The new host provided two IP addresses and instructed me to set the private nameservers at the registrar

    How, exactly is this done?

    Thank you,
    MGH

You need to register those IPs as XX1.domain.ext XX2.domain.ext assign an IP to each record.

Where XX is either NS, DNS, etc., is an easy step but, which registrar service?

this information is needed to guide you in the process.

It's a domain I haven't yet transfered away from 1and1.com. The "need to register those IPs" would be at 1and1; I didn't see an apparent way to do it there (and their 'customer service' takes 48 hours for simple stuff.

    Thank you.

Oh my, at 1&1 indeed there is no way to do it by yourself manually.

You need to contact support for such task but it might take time and patience I'm afraid.

After login click on "my account" and you will see a screen with a Welcome message in the left.

    • * Click on Manage Domains to bring the Domain Control Center
      * Now click on your domain name and you will get your domain's details
      * On the top navigation bar you will see an icon that says Nameservers, click on it
      * Scroll down to find the Host Summary section, bottom left of your screen
      * Click View/Modify Detail to register your own name servers
      * Fill in Host Name 1 , and IP fields accordingly

    And you are done :)
