The dot com boom came and went. Several dot com companies were wiped out at that time. But still surprisingly the dot com boom continues through sites like google, ebay, facebook and there are tons of similar success stories out there. I have been squeezing my mind to try to think of good ideas on the web that aren't out there. But it seems almost impossible for me to come up with anything. Whatever I think of, it seems to have been already implemented in one form or another. But of course Yahoo was there long time back as a search engine before Google came into picture. Though Google came very late into the picture they did a better job and were successful. So I guess it is not always that you have to come up with a brand new idea, but may be you can implement an existing idea in a better way. Of course coming up with great new ideas will be great. Sometimes it seems like these ideas are not for the ordinary person, but only for the privileged few, because you need a lot of resources to implement your ideas. So can we discuss about some cool (business) ideas that will leverage the internet: For my part: - Websites that monitor your home and report everything - Search engine that can read your mind or mood and react - blah blah...i am already out of ideas...
No-one on this forum is really going to share their ideas with you. If you want to do something and you can't think of something "NEW" ind something and use it for a different purpose, make a service better etc
Totally agree that mostly all web developers would not share their ideas. My recommendation would be to study, research, read and learn whatever it's necessary. There's a lot of ideas out there, you just need to know the right way to develop it, market it. Some investments as backup and go out there and try it out, there's no "idea" without trying it out even if it means failing sometimes. The web is a big business and community with a lot of opportunities, it's just not that easy to create the next top website.

Well, just think of stuff that you personally would like to do on the web. Don´t think "that´s just me". There are millions of people like you with similar wants and needs. So start thinking what you would like to see/do on the web, and get going! Once you start, never give up!
I disagree with you where you say that you need a lot of resources to be successful with a new idea. That is not true. It's not like the starter of facebook was loaded with cash. He had a great idea and kept working on it and got funding from investors. Also, the internet builds on itself and therefore ideas build upon each other. Your never going to find an idea that is just completely out of the blue original and unique. The internet is a constant battle between action and re-action. You need to figure out what direction the internet is heading, and what people are going to want for it. The great thing about the internet, however, is there are limitless niches and venues that the internet heads in. It gives you a lot of freedom to do what you want.
Why do you want to break ground and start something new that has not been done yet? That's a tough road to travel. If no one is implementing your idea yet it may be because there's no market for it. You want to be in a market that appeals to people with credit cards and desire to buy. What's wrong with jumping into a great big niche with lots of competition and getting your piece of the pie? Those big niches are popular because that's where the money is. There could very well be room for you. Where are people spending money? In the "Evergreen" niches. Evergreen niches are those that will be around forever because they're timeless, appeal to the masses where people with money are looking for a product or information. They are "Cash Cows"! Think dieting, weight loss, sex, relationships, making money, investing money, saving money, pets, dating, weddings, babies, pregnancy, self-improvement, pain, getting rid of pain, nutrition, health, fitness, sports... Get it?
