Set Geographic Target to USA in Google's Webmaster Tools

I am managing to sites: xxx.com and xxx.co.uk Both have similar content so I thought setting geographic target to United States in the first and United Kingdom in the second in Google's Webmaster Tools would help with any duplicate content issue.

Now results for xxx.co.uk are very good. I am waiting to see results for xxx.com because it's been just 2 days since I made the change.

Please, if you did something like that before tell me what happened?

I have this question. If I set geographic target to United States, will I have better results in Google.com search engine?

    Any comments are welcome.

No, you will not have better results. You will just get less UK traffic. I do business in the US and I left that one alone.

I'd probably just make totally UNIQUE sites in terms of content or put a 301 redirect from 1 to the other then choose whether you want to target .com or .co.uk
