SE's have algorithmic similarities?

Hi,

I've noticed that certain search engines run on the same algorithm like:

- Yahoo and Altavista
- Orange, Google, Lycos and Tiscali,
- MSN and BBCi

Why is this, because surely the algorithms are top secret, especially in Google's case, but reuslts on the search engines are identical.

Is it essentially Google, yahoo and MSN's algorithm rebranded?

nice observation, I've been noticing that also especially when I'm checking backlinks. I think they are the same on some of the factors but not all factors.

 

Search engines are basically information retrieval systems. If they use the same factors to asses the websites and rank them then it is but obvious that the rankings provided by them are similar. You can embed the same factors in different algorithms but the end results would remain the same.

All Search Engine apply same algorithm for rank page while ranking the websites but not equal. I think Google give more value of off page factor but yahoo more depends on page factor.
