So yesterday my main dedicated server had some major problems after hardware failure. I dont have redundancy (yet) and as such my sites went dead for at least 7 hours while I raced to fix it with a new cents install, backup reinstatement etc etc Anyway, Google only chose to index my site during those 5 hours Normally G comes by once every 48 hours or 72 for my main site. And normally during the early hours. So Im currently on Page 1 of google (P8) for a 'fairly' competitive term (15mill results) and its indexed my site as 'sitename' cannot connect to database - its also used my keyword anchor text for the page title. Is it just a case of waiting until Google comes by again and realises the site was back up 1 hour after it crawled!! and re crawls it and put things back as they should be? or what! This is not exactly good for traffic so Im really annoyed by this. Also surprised my SERP did not drop thanks. rant over
This is normal as google crawls webpage regularly to get updates thus you will just have to wait. There is nothing to worry about as it happens to me before when i shifted hosting. My site went dead for 24hrs just waiting for the DNS. But when up, google re-crawl within the next 12 hours.
Thanks for the info guys. mobilebay...YES!! I am counting the hours your right Im not going to phone Google though as one poster has suggested! Google have made an art form out of it being hard to get useful reponses back from them! Just checked and google has respidered the site twice in the last 24 hours (most of the site. homepage included) but the cache is not updated yet Im hoping it will be soon!
You should be fine in a few days, this happened to me when my hosting got suspended, 5 of my sites were indexed with "Site Suspended, Please Contact Support". It will get back to normal though.
you should change your database error details so that it prints some text you want next time rather than the error mesage.
Note that if it happens often, you rankings may begin to slip, are you runing your own server from home/office or something ?
As long it is back up and running soon, Google will return re-index the page and every thing will be back to normal.
Yeah, thanks. It was an oversight due to some recent customisations to the site (php script based) it defaulted to the standard crappy error text Now it is back to a proper HTML page, but just missing some php functions...I wont be forgetting that one again
Yeah. I run an old 386 in my garden shed on a 56k dialup Nooo, not really!.... I run several quad processor dedicated servers running Centos (only the mighty Centos). This site is running on a standalone server with unlimited bandwidth on a Tier 1 network. it was my own stupid fault for being complacent. one of those...well, its been fine for 2 years....it will be ok until I get round to doing it next week Of course....I wont be being lazy again with this! As a a sidenote...it is the FIRST downtime my site has had (except for very brief well planned maintenance windows) in over 2 years so I am not too worried about a repeat performance. Update.... cache has now been updated in all DCs it seems Phew!...Although I have lost 3 places in my SERP
