server specs

I started a social media site a few weeks ago and started some ads here and there and so on. I had hosting package before (no dedicated server or anything like that) all of a sudden my users started inviting their friends and so on and I ended up with 150,000 users now with photos, music and so on. My hosting company kicked me out (bluehost) for using too much resources.

What would you suggest for this kind of site? (please keep in mind limited budget $100/month for hosting)
What should the bandwidth limit be and speed?

    Thank you

Assuming your site is going to keep growing rapidly,

You're going to need a dedicated server or VPS with at least 512MB RAM, preferably a gig. You will need at least as much bandwidth x3-5 (for continued growth) as you used on your shared hosting plan. Try to find an unmetered bandwdith provider. If you dont know much about running your own server/vps, you will need a managed hosting plan otherwise you will need to hire an admin to take care of your server/vps so it doesnt get hacked.

You should be able to do this for under $100/month but I'm sure it will come pretty close to that.
A good dedicated server will run you about $70 (give or take a couple bucks)
An admin, you may or may not need one, will run about $30/mo.

You might get a managed dedicated for around $70 too, just have to look around. There are better deals on forums than company websites - I suggest the dedicated hosting offers or vps hosting offers forums on webhostingtalk.

A managed VPS will run about $40 as well, again you may or may not need an admin here.

My advice would be to shop around, webhostingtalk being a very good start point. Don't be afraid to haggle a bit, just buying at the company headline rate is a beginners mistake. Most hosts will offer you a tailored solution if you just ask for one... email, call and play them off against oneanother (but not too much ;))

    Good luck!

You need a dedicated for that.

How much disk space do they actually use and how much bandwidth?

Because that can help determin CPU and Memory needs for the dedicated server. I would get a high end because it can only be dedicated and upgrading again is pointless.
