Server requirements for mass mailing (100K -200K addresses a post)

    Hi,

I was wondering what type of virtual hosting I would need to setup a mass mailing client which will allow for mailings targetted to 100.000 to 200.000 mails at once.

Ideally I would use a plugin in Joomla,

    Thanks in advance

For your requirement sending 100k to 200k mails at once, you maybe looking for provider that is specialist in mass mailing instead of dedicated server. Take a look at these websites, http://www.mailermailer.com/pricing.rwp and http://www.simplycast.com/pricing.asp.

If you are thinking of having dedicated server to mass mail, you have to be involved issues with blacklist, spam and in extreme cases, fines and imprisonment.

So, let the mass mailing provider handle your needs and takeaway the unnecessary headaches :)

Depending on what software you're using, a single-core dedicated server with 1 GB RAM can be more than enough (for mailing only). But you can't send more than a few thousand emails per hour, or your IP's will be temporarily marked as "suspicious" by spam blocking services and many people won't receive the emails.

Best is to use a paid service like aweber or mailermailer, as their IP's are not blocked by most spam services and you'll get the highest delivery rate.

i would personally get a core2duo with 2gb ram with a 1gbit port if you want speed, but the above specs (single with 1gb ram should be sufficiant)
