If i have one line coming in to my office - say a t1 line and I set up 8 dedicated servers - would all 8 servers have a different ip address or would they share the same ip - ? I don't want clients thinking they are on a shared server when they are on their own dedicated server. Will I have this problem? If yes what can I do to avoid this?
You can have each server on it's own IP, you just have to ask your ISP for enough addresses to go around.
But if my provider just gave me 1 address for that line all of the servers would appear to be coming from the same ip address? giving the illusion of being on a shared server - even if they aren't?
If you only have 1 IP address, then you would have a hard time setting up 8 servers. A web server runs on port 80 (normally) and you only have 1 port 80 per IP. If you need 8 separate web servers, then you *need* 8 different IPs.
you cannot host 8 different servers on one ip without having an excellent knowledge of gateways , routing , etc . you may have to setup one server as a gateway to route requests properly ,
1Mbit connection with 8 servers in an office environment? put them in a datacenter...better for the servers
