Server physical location and speed important?

    1. If you have a web site for an english speaking audience, does it matter if the location of the server is situated in Sweden?

The META tag lang="en" is of course set....

If it matters, does it have great impact and where is the best location for the server?

    2. The downloading speed from server - does it affect SERPS?

    With kind regards,

It's best if your server is located close to the target audience.
I just moved hosting for one of my sites from RSA to Germany and I've seen a noticeable diff in speed.
I had to do it because of high traffic and costs here...
No, server speed won't affect SERPS.
I don't bother with that Meta tag

No download speed doesn't have anything to do with SERPs, but site availability is.

I recall reading a research that people often click on the Back button if the site is loading too slow... so speed is certainly important and the only way to get best speed is to be as close as possible to the visitors.
