server migration, help plz

    Personally if I had 100GB of data that I had to move, here's how I'd do it.

    - Back up all existing data to a USB external hard drive
    - Ship said drive to new data center by registered mail or some other trackable way
    - Restore data onto the new server
    - Rsync any changed data (should be fast)
    - Prevent updates to server1
    - Change the name servers
    - Wait patiently
    - Cancel hosting for server1

    Simple and easy.

    tandac, thanks for the info. And how can i get someone to do the shipping and the update to my new host?? and what do you backup? just use the cpanel backup function?

    Yeah rsync is best option for such huge data transfer, i think even you can even try scp. Regarding port : 100Mb port will be always best as it will help you for faster data transfer.

    I think if you have managed hosting with your new host then you can just request for transfer and your host will take care of it.
