Server load problem.

Hi guys. I post this in a wrong thread folder, pls correct me (yes, as you can see, I rarely have problems with hosting server, until today).

For some reasons, my website was taken down by my hosting provider. After some incessant ways to contact them through email, I finally received a response, and I quote:

The hosting tells me that I need to "rectify" this problem. What to rectify, really? I'm only hosting static HTML pages in this hosting. So, I do not really understand, perhaps is this one of those Denial of Service attacks?

I really welcome all input. Thanks!

How big are your log files? If you get decent traffic, and have them logging referrers and everything, they can become quite large (one of mine went to 8 gigabyte in a fortnight) so that might cause the thing to grind to a halt.

But to be honest, sounds like you need to change hosts, if they don't help you with such a critical issue.

T0PS3O, thanks for your quick answer. To be honest with you, I don't know what are log files. Where do I find it? (If you say the log files are in the Cpanel, I cannot login to my cPanel or FTP, they took out everything).

To answer you about traffic, I get about 300 uniques per day, with about 1,000 page loads. Honestly, that sounded normal. My bandwidth is 2GB per month allowable, so no way on earth such static HTML page will exceed the bandwidth.

Also I receive the email that I can quote:

If they locked you out, how can they expect you to take corrective action? Tell them to f off. That's what I did yesterday with one of my hosting accounts when they screwed up. Take your business elsewhere if they are Mickey Mouse.

If your site is having 2GB bandwidth per month, then there is no way your log is much big a good system can't validate it. Ask your hosting provider support to solve this out, its not your issue. If you are not getting unsuspended, as TOPS3O suggested move away from them.

Move away and post their name so others can avoid them.

They sound like a subrate company.

OK guys, I have successfully migrated my static html files from that hosting to another hosting. Total downtime was about 9 hours and quite considerable opportunity loss from from the ads.

Only after a few hours of waiting, the tech support replied saying they will investigate further. Woops, too late, I've already packed my bags and leave. I told them no amount of justifications can equate to taking down my website like that.

I don't intend to subrate them much, because they have been good for this while, but what they did was not acceptable to me as a customer. The hosting provider is Qualityhostonline. Oddly, everytime I email their tech support, or billing, or after-sales service, it is always being replied by this person named Salman. I guess it is one of those run-your-server-from-home kind of hosting provider.

Anyway, I appreciate everyone who listened to me during the tough few hours. (LOL, like it's the end of the world, HAHA).

Unlikely to be run from home but may be a one-man show. It's pretty common for webhosting to be run by one person. I also run my webhosting myself but it's a much smaller scale since I know I don't want to compromise others' businesses for biting more than I can.

One way to know if it's a one-man show hosting is when they claim to have 24/7 Live Chat but you always find it offline :)

That's what happened to me with this hosting company. Nonetheless, good hosts like accuwebhosting or inmotionhosting do have 24/7 Live Chat. Sometimes I prefer to chat directly with the tech support instead of doing this issue-the-ticket-and-wait for the answer.

I had one hosting (our marriage only lasted a few days, LOL) that say 24/7 email support, but I got reply only after 3 days. The guy said, "Sorry, went to my son's graduation". I was like, what?!

That's why I tell potential clients that I don't offer 24/7 technical support which scares some of them away. My thinking is that as long as the server is safe & secure, I wouldn't need to have much technical support available for my clients. I do offer email support though.
