Server Folder Protection

I have a bit of an unusual request. I host a website which is with Bluehost and have given my web designer access to a particular folder. Within that folder is another folder (which I can't move very easily) which I don't want them to have access to.

Is there a way to do this? Modifying a .htaccess file is out of the question and I can't change their permissions to the original folder as they need to be able to update things etc.

    Thanks in advance.

You can ask your host to change the owner of that folder and set permission for it. However, you might not access to that folder either.

Just get the folder out for the moment. If you give ftp access, .htaccess won't matter at all. I assume it's a shared hosting environment? If you have root access, you can switch ownership and change permission accordingly.

But, I can't see why you do this, because if you do it, the files won't be available publicly too unless of course you change the directory to enable x bit but not r.
