Not sure where to post this, but what is considered bad downtime for a server. The company I am with has been down for 12 hours total in the last month or about 1.5%.
I can't afford my own server unless you'd like to donate Is 1.5% below, average, or above norms? SHould I be looking for a new host? Thanks
Owning your own servers doesn't guarantee uptime. In fact sometimes it has the opposite affect. 12 hours of unscheduled downtime certainly seems like a lot to me though. But moving hosts is not going to guarantee uptime. No idea who the host is or what you pay, but it kind of comes back to the old, "you get what you pay for". So if you can't afford downtime, I would look for a big, reputable hosting company with network and hardware fail-over (it will be more than a $5 hosting package of course). Just depends on how much you loose when you are down I guess if it's worth it or not.
speedihosting.com, but I also use Canadian Web Hosting for 2 other sites and they are down just as much. At this point I don't think I lose much for the downtime, just frustrating. Guess it's true, you get what you pay for. When the downtime costs more than the hosting, it'll be time to move. Can you name any good hosting companies? Thanks Roman
Sorry, no clue... I have my own servers, so I could tell you good backbone providers, but that's about it.
As Shawn says, you get what you pay for, and since that site offers plans for 2 bucks I would bet they are just resellers
What's your up time? Want to host? J/K, but thanks for the input. I agree, my question is, who is a good host and what is a fair price?
LOL, I knew that. It's tough being a small fish in a small pond. I'd like to think I'm a growing guppy.
