Server Down or Slow Too Often

    Hi

I have a question which I would really like an answer to and I do not know a damn thing about.

I find my server running slow or offline at time. When I write my server management company I get the below response.

Is this 500 http processes a lot for a supposed state of the art server which I am paying $200.00+ per month??

How much traffic should I be seeing daily to justify moving to a dualxeon or opteran???? (whatever that is )

    Server is at softlayer.

I can place specs if needed.

LOL, I have dual xeon server but i also have dual core server which costs me around 150$ and it runs more then 500 processes without any problem.I think you should optimize your server apache configuration etc. What are the specs of server?

If you're paying that much money, why don't you just get a dedicated server?

The problem with shared servers is that you're at the mercy of the other users on the servers. Not to mention the greed of the hosting company to stuff as many accounts on there as they can. Most don't give a shit about your site. They just want your money.

Do yourself a favour and get a dedicated solution if you can. Some are even cheaper than what you're paying.

Oh. Your message said that it was shared.

I use these guys for my server: https://www.servermatrix.com/

I haven't had much to complain about.

Your server seems pretty good and I don't see why it would slowdown that much. It should run just fine most of the time.

Do you run a lot of MySQL heavy sites or anything of that nature? Could be a problem with the configuration. You should check all the running processes to make sure nothing is hanging or eating up the processor power.

It can easily handle more then 500 http processes but it also depends what type of processes for example a simlpe page takes a very little load on server whereas a proxy request takes too much load?Do you have proxies on this server? and which script you are using?

Hate to cause confusion however the text quoted was my server management companies response to my assertion the shared hostgator service I was once with was better than the 10 times more expense dedicated I am now running.

HostGator also has dedicated servers though they don't seem to offer a cheap dual core option at the moment. By what Saad said, it sounds like you need a new hosting company. The one you have seems to be giving you the run around.

No I left a hostgator dedicated server after being forced to upgrade and the hostgator server is substandard and performed poorly. Also once on dedicated server at hostgator all support stops.

Males no sense to me but that is why I left.

I am much happier now compared to the dedicated server I left. Any problems and its two sentences to the support company and they fix things right away. I will just upgrade the server as was mentioned.

It takes money to make money they say.

    Saad

I appreciate the recommendation however I have moved server 5 times in the past year and Google is not going to take well to that. The only real difference in servers in the dualxeon so I will just upgrade.

Plus with 60+ sites I do not want to move them all again as well as doing all of the updating in my files.

Thanks for that, I already have a dedicated server. But I think I'll purchase this one seeing as it's a decent offer.

You're welcome.I think it's always a wise idea to check webhostingtalk dedicated offers section instead of just opening any dedicated server's company site and purchasing dedicated that way..By checking webhostingtalk dedicated offers section you can grab a pretty nice and cheap deal! :)

You can purchase cpanel from softlayer for 25$ and uptime of softlayer is great but servers are unmanaged.

No, not fully managed but alot better then any other companies.Like they'll fix normal issues for free and reboots for free 24/7 but if you want any 3pary software to be installed you'll have to pay checkout their management page

Softlayer is one of the best and a lot of web hosting companies use their servers for reselling.

I use this company for server management along with the softlayer server.
As a marketer server issues are important but I don't know enough to run one myself.

    platinumservermanagement.com

    Non affiliate link.

I would have to say they are on any issue I bring them and get things back on track right away. Seems the only issue is my server, its set up and performance.
