ok, i am starting a social networking site and i have been thinking about the server situation. I have decided i DO NOT want to lease/rent servers as it would cost to much in the long run instead i want to buy them and keep them at a data center instead. What are some datacenters that allow you to store your servers there and how much does it usually cost. Do they handle everything, like maintain the servers/fix them and other stuff, also how would i get the servers there?
hi NCDE302, It is better if you continue you previous thread because you mentioned the same topics again. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=368075 If you colocate your server in the datacenter they will not do any maintainance job. Actually if you lease a server from a good hosting company which is nearly same cost as colocate. So why to buy a server then colocate. Just lease a server with your specification.
If you've decided to colocate, then choose the closest and popular DC in your area...sometimes you may have to go to the DC often.
make sure to choose the provider near you so that you can go there and have some nice chat whenever needed
so i will have to do maintenance to the server if i colocate? the closest DC to me that i can find is about 4-5 hours away
is there anyway i can BUY my own servers then store them at a datacenter and they do all maintenance on it...because i dont know much about servers, and i dont wanna rent servers either because it costs more in the long run. is there like any datacenters that sell servers i can buy directly from them?
Here's what you need as far as I comprehend: 1. Locate the nearest DC. 2. Buy/assemble your own rack server. 3. Get it colocated at the DC. 4. Colo guys will be responsible for power, space and network. 5. Hire some system admin or server admin company to do admin tasks for you. A cheap but good option is platinumservermanagement.com Regarding your last question, yes, some DCs offer server buydown, but rare to find. Green rep. appreciated.
