Server / Database Issues

I'm aware this gets discussed pretty much every day in some form or another (PM issues, missing post counts, lost threads, site speed etc etc) - I'm just wondering when the issue is likely to be resolved - if ever? Is something being planned?

I understand this is a free forum, which I do and I'm sure everyone else appreciates but I'd be more than happy to pay to use this forum, a significant amount, providing the server / database speed was up to scratch. I'm sure a lot of people who use DP solely for BST would be happy to also.

In fact, what would be the chances of splitting BST off onto a seperate server and charging for listing? (I'm probably opening myself up to abuse here) but I think that the majority of people who sell in BST will appreciate it as they can go about their daily business with ease, it'll also take some of the strain off the other parts of the forums for the none BST users and most importantly for the owner, it'd generate a lot more income than whatever this site makes on AdSense.

Just thinking out loud really after a morning or stress with duplicate PM's and e-mail notificaitons arriving before they hit my PM Inbox

About making BST paid, it's been suggested before and was rejected, i think.

 

How current is that page? The last update on Hardware shows June last year? I assume it's last year?

 

Actually, it's June 2006. And I've no idea if the total donation amount is being updated or not.

 

such a huge forum and database it happens but what we can do

may be some issues with VBulletin also can be reason for DB issues in PM duplicates etc

 

I wish I knew what we could do. The trouble is, the slower the site goes, the more people hammer the database. I just had a PM notification via e-mail and came on to answer it before I went out which took me 10 or so refreshes before it appeared in my PM Inbox. If a few, well, a few thousand other people are doing similar things then it's only going to add to the problems.

I'm sure the owner / admins / mods get suggestions on how to improve the site speed on a daily basis - and are probably tired of hearing them by now. I'm just really after an update on IF something is being planned more than anything as opposed to turning this into another one of them moaning or suggestion threads.
