Server Crashed Due to DDOS Attack - Server Now in Rescue Mode

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by Melvinng, Jul 7, 2008.

I own an unmanaged server and yesterday morning we were DDOS. I restarted the server via the control panel after the attack and it just never started up.

The tech support set it to Rescue Mode and gave me a Password.

What do I do with that to get it running again? Can someone please teach me or assist me?

I am running: DirectAdmin and CentOS 4.4

    Regards,

Diagnose and fix whatever is stopping the server from booting up properly; you should have tried getting something managed with some ddos protection.

If it is managed, asking your datacenter/management company/host may be the easiest way.

EDIT: Sorry, just read it's unmanaged. Try looking through all the logs to see why it can't start, then fix that problem.

    Time to pay someone imho.

What access do you have now (SSH or KLM)?

Cost all depends on whats wrong and how it can be fixed.

I think it would be cheaper to get the latest backup and sign up to a new dedicated server (managed) somewhere else.

I found out the problem, my APF firewall is blocking everything out. How can I disable it from the rescue cd? Do I have to attach the HD to the rescue cd first? Can someone teach me how to mount the Rescue CD with the HD?
