My website is hosted by Justhost and the site has been down since 6am thursday. I called them they said the server crashed and they are transferring files and it will take up to 48-72 hours and my site is safe. Is what they are telling me true?
No idea. It can take awhile but you can still have a new server up and everything transferred over in under a day especially with backups.
It could be true, but that's an exceptionally long time. I'd expect our guys to have the new server running with all the sites working (assuming nothing strange about the set-up) in 3-4 hours max. If it was unmanaged, then we'd have the OS installed within a few minutes and after that it would be up to the client.
It could very well be true depending on how many sites they have to transfer over to the next server and this could also be taking long because the amount of data that they are transferring. I was under DDOS attack for hours once, and I just made the decision to leave the server and transfer everyone over to a new server, because it was way more powerful and had way better security I didn't think it was going to take me so long it ended up taking me about 12 hours. I am just a small business, I'm sure Justhost have way more clients than I did at the time. So yeah, I think they are telling the truth.
If the server crashed .. then it might take some time to transfer the sites from backup and restore it ... was your dedicated or shared server ? If its dedicated the time frame is big .... if its a shared server .. they have to restore other users domains too ... Hope everything comes back to normal ... Have a great day
