Server bogged down with traffic ... need help!

    Hi everybody,

I have a dedicated server (dual xeon with 1 gig of ram) running a couple of sites. One has pretty big traffic and just got another influx of traffic. Every site using MySQL goes down everyday frequently because of the recent traffic increase. (mostly forum traffic) I know I need more ram but would you also recommend another server?

    Thanks in advance!

Have you tweak MySQL and Apache for performance first?

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't yet. I will have to look into it. I don't know a lot about advanced server admin techniques. I do my management through plesk and rarely through SSH.

    update: I forgot to mention:

One server issue is I'm having is my ram is maxing out and has a lot of swap usage.
The other issue is I am reaching my max mySQL connections during my peak time and it is taking my sites down.

Apache and MySQL are the most resource intensive apps.
What you need urgently is their optimization.
Rent a server admin and get it done based on your type of server, sites etc.
Should cost you a few 10's of dollars.
