In our opinion there is no secret you need a site 1 With original content 2. With good backlinks 3. Constantly updated information 4. Good SEO friendly design and many many more points too many to list here And you need to work very hard at promoting the site
First of all i focus on off page factors. Beside providing valuable content for visitors i need to get high rankink in SEs. I use some basic principles: -place the javascript code into external js file, -use css instead of tables, -using the 2 most important site relevant keywords in the meta tags especially in the <title> tag, -using keywords in external and internal links, -i put the first sentence (2-4 words, containing the most important keywors) into <h1> like this <h1><a href="/sitename.html">sentence containing keywords</a></h1> -place keywords at least 5 times in the content beside taking care of that the keyword density is under 2%. -i usually use <h2>, <h3> tags containing 1-2 keyword. Than come the off-page factors: I gather as many content relevant high ranked inbound links as i can.
thanks all for your advice. does PR play any role? honestly i dont think so! what i have observed listing in dmoz and yahoo directory give a good ranking in SERPS. not sure about that. anything else apart from links, seo and content?
i am trying to obey these rules; No Frames No Tiny text No Invisible text Keywords in Title Tag Keywords in Description Revisit Tag Configure Robots.txt No Text Graphics Move scripts off page Alt Image Tags H1 tags Anchor Text Keywords Content Keywords Keywords in file name No Broken Links Theme Site Map Keyword Density Competitive Review Custom 404 pages Word Count Page Size Keyword Popularity Bold Text Alt Image Tags Text Links Unique Title for Every Page Keyword Prominence Relevance Meta Keywords in content too No Cloaking Keyword Frequency Keyword Stemming Review Information Pages Guide Pages Review Pages Optimize PDF Submit to Directories Increase Link Popularity Don't Duplicate Don't Link Farm Don't Stuff Hidden Input
I am really beginning to think that SEO is as big of a farce as the "Great Asbestos Scare" of the 1980's. The number of rules that people follow, and get carried away with - it's funny when I see a site that has almost no content, and regularly kicks my ass in the SERP's for the same keywords. I gave up on SEO a long time ago, and instead focus solely on good content, and trying to get organic links. (i.e. - ones that I don't have to ask for) Aside from that, there is just something that is still unbeatable about having a DMOZ link, despite all the talk to the contrary. And probably the most important thing that I have run across, is the age of the domain, as disgust pointed out. I think this is a point that gets missed WAY too often. I have several competitors that I share work with. Same type of work, but we all use different tools to accomplish the same goal. I have gotten to know these individuals, and have shared many strategies for how they build their websites. By most indications, my nicely "SEO'd" sites (my early lofty aspirations) should be beating them hands down. But I have one thing against me that they do not - I am the "youngest" site in the pack.
ROFL!!!! Sorry. But that was very funny indeed. It's true though! So many spammy sites out there are doing very well. Col
Yes britishguy thanks for useful information. You should choose right keywords for promotions you links and dont forget w3c rules. i think this is too important for serp.
and so many spam sites do horribly. perspectives are skewed because the ones you see-- almost by definition-- are the successful ones. optimizing for google is not hard at all if you know what you're doing. you need to learn who to trust, and listen to them, and use your own instincts and analysis and experimentation.
