SERPS Question

    Hi ppl,

I've just noticed (what seems to me like) an anomaly in the SERPS regarding top 10 results. When searching with the number of on page results limited to 10 (default), I receive one set of results, while when searching with on page results limited to 100, I get a different set of results.

    ie:
    10 on page results
    and
    100 on page results

Is this a common occurence ? (I've only just noticed it)

    Cheers.

Weird! Never noticed that before. Can't see how it would improve relevancy from G's point of view...

slight differences are normal as you are unlikely to hit the same DC twice in a row.
It is more noticable during a full update.
You can try and force the same DC by using ip but there may well be additional load balancing behind the scene that rewrites ip.

Check McDar tool for full view of what is going on.

Yeah I thought of that one too, but the results wind up the same for me. The same set for 10, and same set for 100 each time. Believe it or not, it would also explain some anomalies in SERPS tools I've seen around the place. I remember checking my results with Shawns tool (API) and a tool hosted elsewhere. I went back and manually checked, finding Shawns tool to be correct. I now see why the other tool was off by a few places. Scraping. :)

Actually, the reason for it is because Google will take two results from the same domain and group them together. So if a domain has something that ranks #1 and #40, then if you request something with 40 or more results, then #1 and #2 will show the results from that domain, and push everything else down as an example.
