My website was in the 17th position in the SERPs for a particular keyword about a week ago and now it is not even in the top 50 for that keyword. My site was last indexed on Jan 13 but I think after that I lost my SERP position. My site is just three weeks old. In the last couple of days (after Jan 13) I did change some pages of my site and changed the option with my hosting company to Add "www." if somebody goes to http://domain.com/. Please advice.
it wont affect more on ranking as google will consider both as a different url, i would like to suggest you to add fresh content and get more back links from relevant site. all the best
I have fewer backlinks but is it possible that I may have got a couple of backlinks recently with a "nofollow" that adversely affected my SERP position?
On Google there has been a lot of flucuation since the last pr update. Having a few backlinks with 'nofollow' will not make a difference.
if you were previously at 17th, your content should be pretty relevant.. Just get more backlinks with the keyword and you should be fine..
I experienced the same change with my site. I was at positions 20-25 for 2 popular keywords and in top 5 for specific (longer) keywords. Yesterday my positioning for popular keywords went from 20 to 90+ in Google only. Positioning in Yahoo and MSN did not change. Positioning on Google of the same page for longer keywords did not change. Have RankTracker charts to prove. Number of back links according to links:xxx is about 200 (300% growth in 2 weeks) Number of back links according to google webmaster panel is about 5000 (150% growth in 2 weeks) I was doing some low-quality link exchanges and got few paid links at PR4-PR6 sites.... Is it a retaliation strike from Google?
I think you just need to build more link of your site then it will back as before Maybe you get more high position then before Dilpreet
chiggins, your site is new you should expect this fluctuations.... nevertheless no backlink will hurt you...start working
If you want www or non-www, you might want to go to Google webmaster tools and set it up there as well. Some even recomend standardizing the url in .htaccess too, probably similar to what your hosting company is doing for you. As far as dropping in the serps, this is very normal for a new site. Now comes the waiting game. I've seen and heard the average wait to be 6 - 9 months. Just keep on keepin on until it comes back. Rumor has it that the more competitive the topic of the site, the longer the waiting game. I've heard 2 wekks sometimes for non competitive sites. Good luck on your sites!
