Is PR value really important if you are just trying to drive some traffic to your site for referral purposes? SERP (Search Engine Ranking Page) #1 more appropriate for this yes? Would I be right in guessing the SERP improvement methods would be just to optimise your page for your keyword in titles, meta tags and headings etc (making sure not to spam the keyword too much) and then just get as many backlinks as possible? Sorry this is such a newbie question...
PR should only be used for amusement purposes. PR doesn't get your site ranked high or bring any traffic. it just looks good on the toolbar. there was a time when higher PR meant higher ranking but thats history now and this date, PR has very little impact on your ranking or traffic, if any. you can get PR4 form a single high PR backlink from an irrelevant site without any anchor text. but that doesn't mean you will get ranked high regarding the second part of your question, you are right. however, dont just build as many backlinks as possible. stay focused on building quality backlinks. relevant contextual backlinks will be more valuable than backlinks form irrelavant low quality sites. when it comes to getting ranked on google, quality of links outnumbers the quantity
so if i have three key words of say for example "one" "two" and "three", should my anchor text always be one two three or do i mix it about? or even "click one two three"?
these are just some ways to get on top but you also need to be flexible in google because they change the algorithm from time to time so you need to be updated on google's movement.
As far as I know about the latest news about Google PR is that it is a factor how much pages will Google bot will crawl from a certain website; meaning, the higher the PR , the higher number of pages will be crawl. Yup. Improving SERP can be achieve with proper titles and description tags, good content, and quality links.
For me I think PR doesn't matter but other thinks PR will give link juice to your site PR. But in terms of traffic to your site I think it's not necessary.
This is a tricky question. PR and SERP both are completely different things. PR tell that how important your website is for Google. And if your websites is very relevant with that keyword then Search Engines give ranking...
So all in all its good to have a high PR site so its important, but to get traffic the PR is only useful to other sites you link to as your sites links count more for them?
There are two ways to get high SERP for Google, PR and use of keywords. Internet users use keywords and it's up to Google on who will land on the top search results based on the two things mentioned. QUOTED FROM GOOGLE (full article here Corporate Information): (1) PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results. (2) Hypertext-Matching Analysis: Our search engine also analyzes page content. However, instead of simply scanning for page-based text (which can be manipulated by site publishers through meta-tags), our technology analyzes the full content of a page and factors in fonts, subdivisions and the precise location of each word. We also analyze the content of neighboring web pages to ensure the results returned are the most relevant to a user's query.
PR is not as important as it used to be. If you are planning to increase your rankings on particular keywords then yes, you should use them in title and meta. Along with that, also use them in the content. When you go for SEO be it promoting via signature or blog commenting, make sure that you are using those targetted keywords as anchor text links.
Hi xploit, I think PR is important and shouldn't be ignored. In a nutshell, the higher your PR is, the more credibility your site has. But that's about it. High PR cannot guarantee you high traffic volumes. Even a site with a lower PR can end up at the top of the SERP's for a specific set of keywords. So, achieving a high PR should be a long term goal. Achieving top rankings in SERP'S should be an ongoing exercise based on regular keyword research.
That is why checking the statistics is important. When you target a main keyword and a secondary keyword, and the readers come into the blog post by the secondary keyword, you know that you can use the secondary keyword for other blog posts as well.
I think you'll find that although PR offers some type of statistical evidence of your work, it's basically worthless (even Google wants to get rid of it) and isn't even used outside of the IM community. SERPS are all that really matter when it comes to search because they lead to direct, organic traffic which has the highest conversion rate. To improve in SERPS and improve in PR, the method is exactly the same, get your on site stuff done and then work at building links, especially those with anchor text.
