How come some sites which don't have much content on their homepage rank higher than my blog which has well onpage and off page optimization? I rank #5. All the sites above are companies' sites. They dont have keywords on their pages even. Why then don't mine rank higher which is highly optimized for keyword?
there ORM (online reputation management) comes into the picture.., for example.., if you have a blog on adidas shoes which is well versed and optimized with keywords and content respectively.., but you wont rank with in top 3.., that's because of brand/ web presence in google..,
Thanks! In that case I think it should happen with keyword "Nike". Not "shoes". Do you get my point? Anyway, there must be some way to beat them I guess.
Taking the Nike and shoes example, for many Nike would be a synonym for shoes. You think shoes, you think of Nike. Google is just thinking the same way. You also need to take into consideration things like the authority that a site like Nike would have. How many sites around the web have linked to Nike? How many times has the brand name Nike been mentioned alongside the word shoes on the Internet? How long has the Nike website been around? Can you end up in the top spot? Sure. Is it something that you can practically do? Not likely. If the only sites above you for a broad and high competition keyword like "shoes" is big-brand-name shoe companies then take the win and go focus on keywords that are lower competition, where you can have a reasonable expectation of getting the top spot with some real work and effort.
I'm sorry to say this but myself and a lot of webmasters have got the impression that google sells keywords to big companies like sony, etc.
recently in panda update..., google said that.., it is giving importance to the product (selling & manufacturing) companies rather than affiliates.., suppose you are affailate (3rd party site) to a product., but if you want to occupy top slot by referring it to product selling or manufacturing website.., then google doesn't ranks your website in top.., first will be d product owned company then followed by affailiates.., please share your thoughts on this., i apologe if i mentioned any wrong info. thanks UD
Thanks for your reply mate! But in this case my site should rank after all these manufacturing companies which actually is not the case. There are many other sites which are manufacturing companies after mine.
i think you are misunderstanding the concept behind online reputation management. when it comes to SERP ranking, reputation management doesn't have anything to do with it. reason the company sites rank higher without much content and seo is due to their main site authority. that being said, you should be able to beat them (aside from the main trademark name) with a good seo plan.
Your point is pretty convincing. What do you actually mean by SEO plan? What specially do I have to do?
