Serp vs location of hosting

I wonder if this is a myth or truth....
Would it make any difference to serp if my hosting is located in the US while targetting the UK consumers? Equally, if I wanted to promote a website in particular country, do I gain more points from G if I host a website in that country?

    Does anyone know about it?

It does matter some. Your ip location does affect serp a little.

i have read about it many a times but never experienced it. i don't think hosting plays any significant role in SERPs. my websites are hosted in U.S. but they rank well in U.S. as well as India.
