    In my opinion to check search engine ranking you should use seo toolbar. Which can show the results indeed.

    Manual checking SERP is better than to check it from any seo toolbar, because many time there's lots of difference in result between manual and from any toolbar.

    No tools... Better to just search on Search engines to monitor your SERP.

    also you can check serps for different keywords in Google AdPreview Tool: adwords.google.com/d/AdPreview ; or through shell sites like adwordspreviewtool.com

    you just have to search the term in search engines like Google, then the results you got from the searched query is the so called - "Search Engine Results Page"

    SERP is used to check for keyword positions of your in the Search engines. You can use SEOserp.com to search upto 1000 search engine results. serppagerank.com allows you to search for about 6 keywords at a time for a particular site. You can also get use of search engine to search of your own. These SERP results vary with some other SERP checker sites. Based on that you can plan your SEo strategies to work for the site.

    Yes, there are many software to check this, one of the best is Market Samurai, but i think its best to check it manually.
