Hey.... we recently made it into the top 20 for a rather large keyword with 100,000,000 results. According to all the keyword tools... this keyword gets around 3,000,000 searches per month. We were expecting 1000+ hits a day if we made it high in the top 10... but after getting to about 17th position... we are only getting like 5 hits a day for this keyword... is it possible to have such a large difference in the traffic from 1-10 to 11-20? Because... based upon the clicks we are getting from 17th position... I'm afraid that this keyword isn't gonna perform very well, even if we make the top 10. So... is there still a chance that this keyword can get 1000 clicks a day if in the top 10?
The question -without revealing your keyword- is that where did you get your data from.... Should be more than 5 visitors though. I am ranked about 50th for one of my sites and still get over 300 visitors pm organic?
It depends on the popularity of keywords and the on whether the top sites provide the required info. If the first site itself provides all the required information, then I doubt they will visit results below #5, let alone second page. But I have had visits from even the 5th page for some keywords.
getting to page one should get you a lot more than 5 hits per day, but it depends on how popular the keyword(s) are.. Dropping from #9 or #10 to #4 or #3 would give you a huge boost, and could easily get you 1,000 per day... or not.. depending on the populartiy..
Highly depends on the keyword. for popular keywords 1-10 does it but for very specific ones people tend to search deeper...
Their is a HUGE difference from ranking page 1 to page 2, even ranking on page 1 positions 1 - 3 get most of the clicks. If people don't find it in the top 3 they usually change keyword phrase.
It makes a lot of difference when it comes to results. I personally fought to get on page 1 in 6th position for a specific keyword and the Adsense seems to grow certainly. It was on page 60 earliar. Ofcourse lots of difference. Crazy people like me will go through millions of result page to find the answer. I think 99% will look only for first few pages for the results.
Uhm... yeah.... Where did you get your information from? My guess is, if a term is searched for 3,000,000 times per month, the competition has got to be fierce as all heck, yet you're already on page two... so quickly and easily. Spend any money doing that? Can you imagine getting the #1 slot for that. 3 million people every month? Easily retire in no time flat. Seems a bit suspicious to me. That traffic difference is very possible. If this 'magic term' is so good, I suspect the people in the top 5 have very authoritative sites (grabbing all your traffic).... if not, the whole top 10. Anyone care to take a whack at cracking THAT egg? hahahahah
Not so quick and easy to #2. It's been a major effort getting this done... and since we moved up into the top 20 a couple of weeks ago... it's been really disappointing to see the lack of traffic coming in... since this is our main keyword... and we have done virtually all of our SEO around it. I just hope that a top 10 can make a world of difference.... because even 50 or 100 clicks a day would be a huge disappointment. I'm not gonna lie... we have studied and compared this keyword with other keywords we have... and we really expected 3000+ clicks a day if we were in the top 5. More info... this keyword cost $5+ a click on adword or Yahoo links.
it hard to tell the traffic due to the keywords, businesses, site, traffic for keywords and many more. so we might can not answer your question.
I would say it depends upon the number of relevant results on the first page and the search term. If someone can find their answer from a page one result they are unlikely to go to page 2.
Alot depends on the search term. For example if someone was searching for 'Digitalpoint forum' , chances are they will go to the first result rather than need go page 2.
Depending on the keyword, some users will browse page 2-3-4-5 in Google. However I'm sure for some keywords users will find everything they need on the first page and never check the other pages.
One of the major factors is how well your site is represented in the listings. You want to have a Title and Description that really sells the click. There's a chance you may have your Title and Description well optimised but no one really wants to click on it because you haven't had a look at it from a copywriting angle (I haven't seen your listing so I have no idea) If you don't read Jim Boykin's Blog (I suggest you do) you might have missed this one: http://www.jimboykin.com/click-rate-for-top-10-search-results/ It's not quite what you're after but it will definately give you a much better idea of the range involved, plus its backed up by real data.
Heres a link to a study done I recalled reading some time ago or just check G for eye tracking study of google search engine im sure you will find more info. I prefer to be no 11 than 7/8/9/10 myself http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=3488076
hahah... Now THERE'S a business plan. Why bother with going to #1, when you can design your business model around #11. As dumb as it sounds, it might actually be very profitable in some markets. Good tip!
I see a couple problems with this study. The numbers are to rounded indicating a small sample size. When all data is nice 10% increments something is not right when you have 50 participants. Second, I use Google Analytics and see that sponsored listings that get the most clicks are not the top or bottom right side listings not the middle. People may be reading down the organic listings and shift over halfway down the page or it may be that psychologically people may think the top listings are the high budget companies and the lower ones might be the more useful contenders.
