Hi everyone, I couple of days ago I changed my title tags to become more relevant to my site. Originally the title tag was simply "Pokerisrigged.com" for my poker forums. I then changed it to "Poker is Rigged | Forums" and have noticed a jump from page 12 to the top of page 6 for the key phrase "poker forums" (fairly competetive). Is this a coincidence or is it impossible for the effect to be that great? My forum which is relatively small at the moment has out ranked several large sites including a site called www.eatmystack.co.uk which is pretty damn huge! Did the title tag really do that much?
changing titles and specially title tags always kills your serps wait a several weeks or a few months until the serps have settled down. much later MAYBE the serps might be better - may be totally out like now. changing back does NOT solve your situation - ANY change of title tag alway results in a total renewing of your serps and that takes MUCH more time than the VERY first time when you publish your page. for the future: change ONLY if you TRULY KNOW what you do - NEVER just for testing - it always takes weeks to months until you see the REAL effect on such changes. better do it RIGHT from the beginning !!!
Well I'm guessing my title is better off as "Poker is rigged | Forums" since it contains both key phrases I am optimising for rather than "Pokerisrigged.com"... I did research before changing the tags and felt that it needed to be done.
keep in mind that serps beyong pge 1 oe 2 alway tend to jump up and down or out if you wish stable serps then you NEED to establish the page among the top 3-5 any page later than 2-3 will bring you near zero traffic pages 5 or higher definitely only MAY bring single accidental traffic real traffic only comes from page 1 !! if you are UNable to achieve page 1 - that means you are no expert in your job or lack the power to invest the efforts needed to achieve a page 1 and may consider a different topic where you willingly can invest all the efforts and $ needed to CREATE the content needed to achieve a top 3-5 serps and get a real share from your keyword's global traffic. I consider any page I have on page 2 or later as a potential failure that needs correction and remedy no matter the efforts if the keyword is important to me.
Unable to achieve page 1? Firstly I never claimed to be an expert, I've been doing SEO and IM for the past 2 months and have learned a lot on the way. Bringing my site from unlisted to page 6 for a very competetive keyword is a big achievement. Of course my efforts don't stop there, I am aiming for page 1. I am unlike 90% of DP members. I don't look for a quick buck. I'm not going to invest $$$ in some douche bag to try and improve my SERPs. I want to learn this skill for myself and for the future without having my hand held. But thanks for the words of motivation.
top 10 serps are no matter of $ invested into seo but $ invested into creating more content attracting more generic backlinks and more satisfied customers / site visitors. time invested into studying, into learning - that of course costs $ but the results are of lasting nature, while $ invested into pure seo are of temporary nature. to be an expert is a goal - else having a site makes no real sense unless its a pure hobby site. any higher page simply brings no visitors to justify the investment of natural resources such as time and life force. i have invested zero cents into links but ten thousands of $ and many ten thousands of hrs into creating content leading to success. its just a matter of motivation - if the goal is valuable tnen its easy to be motivated and work years day and night until goal achived.
