Hi, after some hard work I managed to get position 2 in Google for my targeted keywords, however it only remained in position 2 for a week or just over, before droppings back to position 3, even though my backlinks have increased. Anyone know the reason for this? Thanks Dee
What's your competitor doing for backlinks? You have to remember, as hard as you're working, there's probably someone out there working twice as hard at getting backlinks.
Hi Nigel, thanks I will do so tomorrow My competition has nowhere near the number of backlinks I have, I have over 10 times more, could this drop just be a temp thing? Dee
"could this drop just be a temp thing?" Yep, I generally find that fluctuations like that are normal and 9 times out of 10 related to what someone else is doing, not you per say. Nigel
maybe your competitor got more quality backlinks.... and remember... quality is always better than quantity. can you drop me your website url so we can review it?
That's ok..Google updates and changes the SERP's from time to time.Don't bother much about it.. concentrate on adding more quality content and build more incoming links.. it will be back.
You have to do your seo work on regular basis. I think your competitors are very serious as compare to you. So your website is dropped. Continuously watch the competitors activity. It will also helpful to increase PR and ranking too.
Maybe your competitor's site optimization is better, maybe he has better backlinks, maybe his domain is much older than your's, and don't forget about trust rank. Is 2-nd position is so important to you? As for me I don't see the big difference between 2 and 3 places. Probably you should try to target on marketing not only SEO.
Let me get this straight. You are concerned because your site dropped from the 2nd position to the 3rd position?? Or did you mean 30th position? I'd be concerned only if that was the case. See SERPS are not static. Google keeps changing its algorithm, assigning new weightages to the various factors it takes into consideration while ranking pages. And there's one more thing that I don't quite understand. You said you "managed to get position 2 in Google for my targeted keywords." You had the 2nd position for ALL your keywords? And it fell to the 3rd position for ALL of them? That's kind of hard to believe Anyway, I agree with Nickolai. There are just too many factors that that can affect rankings. Only you can check and determine whats affecting yours. Good luck.
SERPS is constantly jumping around unless your site is very stablized. Quantity of links do not matter in todays' SEO world. It is the quality that counts. Site A can have 89 links and Site B can have 4582 links, yet Site A is still ranking much higher because it has 89 quality links while Site B has 4500 rubbish links with only 82 quality ones.
Google always changes its rankings as it updates and new competitors come in, just keep adding back links on a daily basis to stay on top of the competition
Hi, thanks for your replies. In response to some of the questions/points: Yes I mean it has dropped from position 2 back to position 3 (not 30), I know most people won't see this as a problem at all, but as I am hoping to get to position 1, I would like to understand the reason for the drop. My competitors are not better optimised than me, I am doing way more off page optimisation, the only things they appear to have done that I haven't is the yahoo directory and PPC. Their domains are also much older than mine, mine is around 6 months as opposed to 8-10 years. I am constantly doing on site optimisation too. So I see no reason for the drop, but hopefully it will only be temp Dee
