Serious dilemma !

Hi fellow DPs,

I have been reading through the forums again and again. And before I sink any deeper into my blog, I would love to get feedbacks on whether I should switch to paid hosting.

As you can see from my signature, I'm currently using blogspot. So, I was wondering what are the advantages if I switched. Will it really help in pulling more traffic? What other advantages are there?

 

What if your blog gets super popular and you start making a killing, oops, ultimately the blog is out of your hands, you own nothing.

The longer you wait the more you'll lose when you switch to your own domain, if you're serious about running a site and making money you should never use free domains.

 

Just to be safe buy your own domain with maybe some kind of relevent name but also something that could be turned into a different site if you decide to quit blogging.

 

Every blog post you make builds the value of your domain. Or, in your case, Google's domain.

Who do you love more, you or Google?

 

You should think about getting away from blogspot if you want to blog longterm and also make money from it. The others are right, blogspot won't earn you a dime.

 

Yeah, it's only $9 a year to get the domain and then it's yours for life. I like namecheap.com to buy the domains.

Thanks for the replies! Actually, I wanted to move long ago.. just that I'm more familiarised with the blogspot codes so I can design the whole website myself. Not too sure about wordpress though, but I'll be checking it out soon.

Some guides will be appreciated too. hehe

 

I would always suggest hosting your blog yourself, give yourself that freedom, and it wont cost much at all.

 

cheap(blogger) is not cool,cool(Paid) is not cheap.

 

i'm not worried about spending too much, if its worth it i will definitely go for it.

i'm just worried cPanels, installation/design/using of wordpress will post alot of troubles for me considering the fact that i only used blogspot the day i started blogging.

 

Well im not a technical guy, i have zero qualifications, and i just feel my way around things, dont be daunted by the thought of how you will handle something, cPanel is quite easy to find your way around, same with installation, just take it nice and slowly, can pick up decent hosting for $5-$10 monthly.

Regarding design, thats something i can relate to feeling intimidated by, but im going to try and learn, dont be scared, you can do it.
