Hey, I have a question and was wondering if anyone has a definite answer on it. For SEO purposes is it better to have your blog within your main domain (ie. blog as a subdomain/directory) or keeping them separate and linking them together on the Navigation bar. On one hand it seems like the blog can increase the content value of your main site if they are attached; however keeping them seperate means you get a direct relevant backlink to your main site. I got a feeling that keeping them together is better but just wanted to make sure.
If they are about the same topic then definitely keep them together. A sub-domain is treated as a separate site in the eyes of search engines so would have it's own page rank, etc. which isn't going to help your main site near as much as having more relevant content to your topic.
So your saying that it's better to have store.blog.com rather than store.com + blog.com and linking them together at the navigation bar? I am just debating the merits of having combined page rank vs additional relevant backlinks.
I agree. I'd put them together just because it would seem confusing if the root domain name for the blog was different than for the top-level site.
In my case, I'm running a E-Commerce store and want to have not so much a corporate blog. But just a blog related to the industry, so it wouldn't really be confusing. Just a question of SEO and flexibility for me.
Well if you are looking forward for traffic then having blog on your own domain will be helpful as it will also help you increasing your ranking.
